An afternoon with Dory

So Dev was lucky enough to get a colonoscopy today. So I was once again lucky enough to see him on those funny drugs. This time he wasn't loopy and saying funny/weird things. He was normal but just couldn't remember anything for more than 2 or 3 minutes. I couldn't figure out why he kept asking me until the nurse said, "oh by the way, the medication he's on causes him to lose his short term memory for a few hours. So he'll be asking you the same questions over and over".

I didn't know what I was in for. I was living "Groundhog Day" but for me it started every few minutes...with the exact same questions; worded the exact same way; in the exact same order; with the exact same follow up questions; and the exact same reaction statements. We went over the same 6 questions at least 15 times (no exaggeration). It was getting a little old after a while, so one time when he asked the same question I told him I would tell him later when he would remember. He then got frustrated and said, “Bri, I'll remember so why won't you just tell me?” I smiled and said, “no, you won't. Trust me”.

In retrospect Devin can't remember anything prior to sitting on the couch at our apartment and is surprised to find out that he came out of the surgery center in a wheel chair (totally coherent and normal) and drove around with me for 30 minutes or so 'til we got home...talking the whole time (totally coherent and normal...just repetitive).

This made me fast forward 45 years to see what life would be like with him. I now know, and I can wait for those days...did I mention Devin repeated everything at least 15 times:)

I think that you should call him Dori for the next little while. It could be a good nickname. :D Can't wait to see you guys in a few weeks!

I was so glad to read your post! Mike went in for a colonoscopy and a throat scope today and after he kept telling me the "funny" joke he had told the nurse just before he went out! So glad to know he isn't loosing his mind:)

Hope he has a few more years than 45 before senility sets in. That is a funny story. You should record it and play it on repeat just for fun.
